Varicose Veins![]() Varicose veins occur when a valve in your veins ( a vessel which transports blood back to the heart) malfunctions. A variety of conditions may cause these valves to malfunction such as : age - varicose veins usually appear btw ages 30-70 and get progressively worse; Genetics - if there is a family history of varicose veins then thee is greater chance that a you will; Gender - women are more likely to develop varicose veins due to hormonal changes. Women's hormones tend to relax vein walls; Obesity - being over weight puts added pressure on your veins; standing for prolonged periods - your blood does not flow as well if you are in the same position for prolonged periods of time.
